Car description
The 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette Club Coupe is an icon of American style, designed by the automotive legend, Harley Earl. This car epitomizes the aesthetics of the 1950s, reflecting the spirit of the pin-up era, and its impressive silhouette and distinctive details give it a unique character. Tail lights inspired by the Lockheed P-38 Lightning bomber initiated the era of so-called "fins" in automotive design, and the interior and body are full of stylistic nuances that capture the attention of every classic car enthusiast. The fuel filler hidden under the rear light, the goddess on the hood, removable rear wheel covers, and opening rear windows in the coupe body – all of this makes the Cadillac a true work of art on wheels.
This Cadillac measures 5.5 meters in length and is powered by a powerful 5.4-liter V8 engine generating 160 horsepower. It was the first engine with overhead valves used in a Cadillac, and with the use of hydraulic lifters, the engine operates nearly silently. The four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission complements the luxurious character of this car, offering a comfortable and smooth ride. Despite its weight, the Cadillac Series 62 could accelerate to 100 km/h in just 14 seconds, and its top speed was 160 km/h, making it one of the fastest production limousines of its time, even as a coupe model.
The presented example was purchased at an auction in the Netherlands in 2018, during the liquidation of a museum, and has since undergone a comprehensive restoration. The car looks exactly as it did on the day of purchase, and the finishing details attest to the extraordinary care for originality – it is clear that the car was rebuilt from the ground up, preserving every small element. Since it had been a museum exhibit for years and had not been driven, it underwent a thorough engine overhaul in my hands, including the replacement of all components, including the pistons, as well as the repair of the transmission. The cost of parts was significant, but the end result is worth every invested zloty.
The Cadillac has also been fitted with new tires, and the original tube radio has been restored to full functionality, offering surprisingly good sound. For safety reasons, the car also gained a dual-circuit Wilwood brake pump, ensuring it drives confidently and safely. The vehicle underwent full detailing, both of the body and the interior, making its shine truly dazzling. This is a car that not only looks phenomenal but also drives spectacularly, offering incredible experiences behind the wheel.
The price of 265,000 PLN reflects the value of this beautifully restored example, which is ready to drive and attract attention at every classic car show. The Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette Club Coupe is a car that combines history, style, and luxury, being at the same time a symbol of automotive passion and craftsmanship that does not lose value over time.
